Shamanic practices are as ancient as humanity itself, passed down through countless generations because of their profound ability to heal, guide, and connect us to something larger than ourselves. What intrigues me most about this path is how universal it feels. No matter where you are from or what your story looks like, shamanism holds something for you. It offers tools to reconnect with the rhythms of nature, to find clarity and healing, and to discover that the sacred is not somewhere far away but right here in the heart of your daily life.
When I began my own shamanic journey decades ago, I had no idea how deeply it would change me. Step by step, practice by practice, it helped me develop resilience, a deeper awareness of who I am, and a stronger connection to the world around me. What I’ve learned is that the teachings don’t just live in ceremonial spaces or ancient wisdom; they breathe through every challenge, every joy, and every quiet moment of reflection. Here are five ways learning shamanic practices can make life better for anyone willing to lean in with an open heart. When it comes to self-love, too many people focus on the things they lack instead of the things they have. They see themselves as unworthy and undeserving of love and care. This creates a negative feedback loop that can be difficult to break out of. However, it's important to remember that self-love is not about perfection. It's about accepting yourself for who you are and making a commitment to taking care of yourself.
This means making time for the things that make you happy and giving yourself permission to say "no" when you need to. It also means being gentle with yourself when you make mistakes and remembering that you are worthy of love and care no matter what. My rituals tend to be practical full body experiences. I gravitate more toward embodying intention than acting it out. In my life, it’s sometimes not practical to light candles and put on special clothes to dance around a room chanting. In fact those things can sometimes feel foolish. I know that for me it’s a show, an act, not my style.
