What is the Summer Solstice, Really?
Astronomically, the Summer Solstice happens when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky—it’s the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Spiritually, it’s a pivot point of fire, vitality, and revelation. Everything is illuminated in this light. This is the season of abundance, radiance, and truth-telling. The light is loud. It calls forth what’s been hidden. It also invites a reckoning—what have you been growing in your inner garden? What needs more tending? What’s ready to be harvested or released? Where can you find even more fire and passion? The Solstice is not just about doing more. It’s about being more you. In your body. In your practice. In your presence. A Summer Solstice Ceremony to Try For thousands of years, humans have celebrated the Solstice with fire, rhythm, and gratitude. Honoring the solstice doesn’t have to be elaborate. The key is intention. Whether you're alone or with loved ones, this simple ceremony can help you connect with the energy of the solstice in a meaningful way. What You’ll Need:
Step 2: Reflect on Growth, Welcome Light and Gratitude Take a few deep breaths, centering yourself in the present moment. In your journal or on the paper, write down things you’ve cultivated since the year began. These could be goals you’ve achieved, relationships you’ve nurtured, or personal growth you’ve experienced. Honor the fullness of your life at this peak moment in the wheel of the year. Take a moment to bathe in the reflection and glow of the sun above you, the fire in front of you, or the candlelight. Close with gratitude for the season's gifts. If you like, you can place your paper reflections of the growth you’ve experienced into the fire or dispose of them in a fire-safe container. In doing this, you are sending that energy back into Universal Energy, fueling more growth for the rest of the year. If you're in a group, this is a wonderful time to share reflections or wishes for the months ahead. Step 3: Celebrate the Light Finally, spend time simply enjoying the solstice. Share a meal, sit in the sun, or dance under the open sky. Celebration itself is a powerful way to honor life’s abundance. Final Words from My Heart You don’t need to have it all figured out to celebrate the Solstice. You just need a willingness to show up—with your whole, beautiful self. When my kids were little, we had a Solstice tradition: blankets and sleeping bags spread out under the open sky. On this magical evening, there was no bedtime—just freedom to feel the longest day of the year in their bodies. They ran barefoot through the yard as we waited for the sun’s final rays to slip behind the mountains. Eventually, I’d end up carrying their sleepy bodies to bed, but for me, every moment was worth it. This season is your invitation to take up space, follow your fire, and trust the wisdom of your becoming. If you’d like more ways to deepen your spiritual path or mark the seasons with ceremony, you’re always welcome to reach out or explore a healing session or workshop with me. Until then—shine on, Wild One. The world needs your light. With love and warmth, Terri Comments are closed.
